National Parks are areas of land protected by the government. They were set aside for the purposes of historic and scientific benefit as well public recreation and enjoyment. The National Park Service was created in 1916 to administer the parks.Currently the NPS administers more than 85 million acres of land. The system also includes national treasures,monuments,recreation areas,seashores,lake shores,historic parks and sites, battlefields and scenic trails.
