This was inspection day of the race and my first time actually seeing the Great Wall. Possibly one of the most profound moments in my solo travel adventure. The moment when I knew I made the right decision.
The Temple of Heaven is one Beijing's best tourist sites. Built in 1406 by Emperor Yongle from the Ming Dynasty. Emperors from the Qing and Ming dynasties would come twice a year to pray for a good harvest for the year. This is also where the emperors performed the Heaven Worship Ceremony and sacrifices on the behalf of their empire. The area that it is built on spans an amazing 3,529,412 square yards, making it 4 times bigger than that of the Forbidden City. The Temple of Heaven became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1998.
Fun fact Emperor Yongle also built the Forbidden City. These emperors sure were over achievers.

Built in the Ming Dynasty by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang as a defense to protect Xi'an and its people. There are about 100 ramparts which is used to see any enemies climbing the wall. Each rampart is spaced out enough that any arrows shot from one rampart would cover the space in between the next rampart. The Ancient Wall consists of several lines of defense including a moat, watchtowers, gates and bridges.

You don't have to travel all the way to Kyoto to see the red "torii" gates. Nezu-jibun Shrine is one of Tokyo's hidden gems and has been around for 1900 years. Making it one of the oldest places of worship in Tokyo. These torii gates found in Shinto Shrines usually marks the transition from mundane to sacred. What is the difference between Temples and Shrines? Temples are Buddhist and Shrines are Shinto.
I understand why people who come to Japan fall in love with the culture and the people here. They are so friendly and polite here. They also really go out of their way to accommodate or help someone in need of assistance. The public restrooms are THE cleanest restrooms I've ever seen and smelled 😂. Also I'm very sensitive to the water when traveling so I always ask for bottle of water everywhere I go. Not here, I've been drinking straight from the tap and have had no issues. Also, the way things are done here is so efficient and organized is amazing but what's even more impressive is that people actually follow the rules here. It's like being in a country full of Chick-fil-A employees. The only thing you have to watch for is the occasional monster wanting to eat you as food and destroy the city.. 🤷♀️
Shibuya Sky offers some of the best views of Tokyo. Towering 230 meters above the ground, it is the highest point in the district of Shibuya. Not only known for the view but there are restaurants and art displays that span between the 3 floors. Admission for adults is priced at 2,000 yen. It is said that on a clear day Mt Fuji can be seen from up there. Don't miss out on seeing the Shibuya Scramble Crossing which can also be seen from here.

The Senso-ji Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tokyo. The first temple was founded in 645 AD. The shopping street leading up to the temple is lined with shops making it one of the best places to buy souvenirs.
